A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) is PMI’s flagship publication and is a fundamental resource for effective project management in any industry. It has been updated to reflect the latest good practices in project management. It is the defacto standard on project management which conforms to American National Standard Institute (ANSI) standard (99-001-2017).
The PMBOK® Guide – Sixth Edition was launched on September 6th, 2017 in English and 11 additional languages (Arabic, Chinese [simplified], French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese Brazilian, Russian and Spanish). The Hebrew version will be launched in H1, 2018.
What’s New in the PMBOK® Guide – Sixth Edition?
The PMBOK® Guide – Sixth Edition includes information on how to implement its approaches in agile environments.
Other additions include:
- Trends and emerging practices
- Tailoring considerations
- A greater emphasis on Strategic and Business Knowledge
- A new chapter on the role of the project manager has been added to focus on leading projects effectively – competencies, experience and skills that are all necessary
- Two Knowledge Areas have been renamed to more accurately reflect which elements can be managed and which can not:
- Time Management is now Schedule Management
- Human Resource Management is now Resource Management
Every Knowledge Area features four new sections:
- Key Concepts
- Trends and Emerging Practices
- Tailoring Considerations
- Considerations for Agile/Adaptive Environments

- Total of 49 processes (3 new, 1 deleted).
- 3 new processes introduced — “Manage Project Knowledge”, “Control Resources” and “Implement Resource Responses” processes
- 1 process deleted — “Close Procurements” process
- “Project Time Management” is renamed as “Project Schedule Management”
