This in order to make progress based on client feedback and to address their real needs, that is, to create value for them. What is Agile?
Agile is another word for nimble, swift. The approach refers to the ability of any organization, body or company to adapt to a dynamic environment. The Agile approach originally emerged in software organizations for software projects, but today it is also applied in projects unrelated to software.
The approach was devised due to the high rate of failures in software projects, in terms of schedule delays and financial losses. It turns out that flexibility, as argued by the Agile approach, as well a thorough understanding of the changes (that affect the project) or vice versa, could have “saved” many projects.
A survey from 2010 that examined thousands of software projects that adopted the Agile approach, revealed that 70% of them reduced development time and 65% improved the software’s quality.
The Importance of the Agile Approach in Project Management?
One problem shared by all projects that adopt the Agile approach, as it is called today, is the difficulty in predicting the final product. This management method allows for gradual understanding and management while responding to necessary changes.
The premise that enabled the successful penetration of the Agile approach into the field of project management is that in this area too, there is a need for flexibility in the face of known processes that show uncertainty regarding their final products. According to the Agile approach, the understanding of those involved in a project improves according to its progress or according to a change made in the organization. Therefore, it’s safe to say that in the course of a project, there will be steps taken that differ from those planned in advance. The Agile approach primarily promotes learning processes in projects whose final product is not entirely clear or known.
